Gold and silver ETFs hold physical metal stored by the fund; gold and silver fund-of-funds invest in those ETFs so you can invest without a demat account.
Precious metals often rise when equity markets are stressed, so a small share (5 to 15%) can reduce the ups and downs of your portfolio. They do not get the equity tax treatment.
